What We Learned from @AlabamaFTBL

A 13-point second half comeback. A 51 yard field goal. A 41 yard walk off donkey kick by a freshman quarterback. Only Alabama, right?


But Bama didn’t just win the National Championship, they won social media as well.

The Crimson Tide’s mix of video and motion graphics are well ahead of the curve in #smsports. They don’t tweet without a graphic, ever. And that graphic is in motion almost all of the time.

We followed Alabama on every platform in the days surrounding their National Championship victory. What we learned is that you don’t have to be complex to be effective. Sure Alabama has a lot of complicated graphics that look great, but many of their graphics just stay consistent with their brand and give off a simple vibe. Here are some examples.

This video series by Bama is top notch. Check out their Twitter for more of the same feature (involving different players). The graphics and idea behind this video are simple and effective.

This is one of my favorite videos I’ve seen this year. You don’t need to be original to be effective. This video has been made a thousand times before, but it’s timeless. Branding here is sharp and powerful. It’s clear that Bama came into this game with a plan.

Again. Simple, effective, brand. That’s Alabama’s formula.

Telling stories and evoking emotions is the goal with video. Here’s a great example of both.

Their Instagram story was next level as well. With quality images and pro player cameos, the Tide showed us how it’s done on the Gram.
